i've just watched the story on campbell live about dozens of horses being siezed from a property in christchurch. the owners/breeders left the horses with no water and little food, and may of the horses grew to a highly emaciated state. Champion American stallion Danny Boy was found confined in a stall 24/7, up to his knees in excrement with holes kicked in the walls showing his frustration. The owners claimed that they had tried to help the horses but they were too "wild" to catch. They blamed financial difficulties and the flu on the poor state the hosrses were found in.
bull shit. its a simple case of having too many horses and not having the common sense to get rid of them in a way that provides them better homes and an actual chance at life

Horse of the Year Successes
so horse of the year has been and gone. a couple of people and horses i knew from pony club did well ( yeah i stalked the results). of course i still believe that one day i will get to horse of the year competitively. i quite fancy the eventing challeng or even showing, something i hated with a passion when i had my pony. but he was grey and liked to roll mud into his plaits. im sure a nice bay or dark brown would be much easier.
i've just got the new issue of horse and pony and had a look at jody hartstone's new ride WHISPER V. he looks lovely and its great to have some quality dressage stock in nz. i've always felt that new zealand bred horses are like the new zealand people, they like the high adreneiein sports, hunting, eventing etc.

i kind of resent the hold that the fancy european warmbloods are developing over many of the equestrian discaplines. lots of top riders who had previously ridden the good old NZ thoroughbred with grat success are now finding that with the short format adopted in most 3DEs, dressage scores are becoming increasingly important, and new zealand dessage just doesnt stack up.
it would be great if more grass roots levels could get access to these high quality horses and their tariners without having to be gazzillionaires and ship their horses all over the country. then again that is the nature of the sport
anyway, congrats to jody for not only her convincing victories but also her WEG qualification. i hope she makes it over this september. congratulastions also to vanessa way and KH Arvan for what i hear was a close second.

Disillusioned and Delusions
Today had been a very long day. Im not cut out for this uni life. I did however finally recieve my Student Card, adorned with a picture of my weeny pony Triumph. This is great, because now I can continue to delude myself, and others, that I still live and belong in the horsey world. Really, thats what this blog is all about. Tagging along on the blogs of people who are doing what I still wish I was doing. I can keep up easy enough with all the big equestrian news; Totalis's newest record breaking score, the latest phase to be removed from eventing etc, but I just dont feel like im in the throng of it. So this is it. My throng. I am the shepherd and my blogs are my sheep. If my metaphor makes sense...

Just for Clarification
A bit
about me
I am currently attending the University of Auckland studying Psych (major), Art History (minor), Antropology and Stats. My ultimate goal is to become a horse/animal psychologist. And have a tv show.
I fell in love with horses age 10 and have been dabbling in the horse world ever since. My only pony so far has been Triumph, a 14.2hh Conemarra Gelding, who was kinda the devil. He liked to drag me across the intersection by our pony club into oncoming traffic. He didnt like circles. Or fillers. Or going out by himself. He was however, very cute.
Old friends from pony club have informed me he now has a little rider and is doing well. Hopefully he teaches her more than he taught me.
For now, my riding boots are gathering dust and my tv is gathering more and more schleich horses.
Last Night
Last Night was kind of a big deal. I had my big 18th birthday party at Brooklyn Bar in town.

We made a big deal about going to Pony (a club). I would go there again just for the stamp. Its a pony (obviously) I made a slide show to show on the Big Screen that basically was just a parade of some of my favourite horses
